Earlier this year the great artist Ali Sabet came and did an artist talk in the Korean NFT community, and even did one of the “Fermata Gallery” Openings using the Oncyber Genesis Destination that I currently own. After a couple months of sporadic but continued contact, I decided to try my luck and asked if he wanted to collaborate with me on a piece, and I was surprised and honored that he immediately agreed to do so. The inspiration behind the idea was seeing his “Lovescript” series, in particular the pieces with black background with gold paint:
This series resonated with me not only because the Lovescript itself reminded me of the natural flow of Asian calligraphy, which is where I got my start with visual art, but also because I had a painting series of golden ginkos on black rice paper that was similar in feeling:
Although Sabet was in the midst of helping to organize the world’s largest NFT exhibition while also managing his own drops, he was gracious enough to work on this collaboration in his free time, and we corresponded via email and procreate to create this joint image, to which I added some subtle animation in After Effects.
